Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

Well, I've had to focus mostly on the rental games instead of the ones I own.

So I started playing Spiderman 2. I really like this one so far... the tutorial was really funny. And you have complete freedom to explore the city right from the start.

Also played some more Baldur's Gate (BG2:DA) and after some more dungeon exploring, eventually rescued the people I need to find, and reached town. There were enemies attacking the place, and a boss to fight... so I helped everybody, and was taken to the city of Baldur's Gate. There's the main quest to follow, and some optional stuff it seems. I don't know where to buy new equipment, though.

Re: PARTY ALL THE TIME!!!!!!

I unlocked Choco in Darc's side of the story of Arc the Lad 4.

Holy Hell, is she the most annoying character in a game ever or what! I said earlier that I didn't like Kath Soucie as a voice actor, but I have to give her credit: she's incredibly good at being incredibly annoying!

Choco, for those who don't mind spoilers, is a sickeningly cute little girl who claims to be a Deimos, though she looks human to me. Thing is, she must have an INCREDIBLE speed rating, because she gets a lot of turns in battle. I swear, this battle was running like this:

Choco's turn
Darc's turn
Choco's turn
Volk's turn
Choco's turn
Enemy's turn
Choco's turn
etc., etc..

I'm really glad she's not a main character and has no effect on the story, though. Maru and Bebedora are "cutesy" characters that are cute and funny without being annoying. Choco could've ruined everything.

Dieckbeck, Kharg's hidden character, actually seems pretty cool, though. He looks like a cross between Bob Hope and the Tin Woodsman.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

Spiderman 2... well, it's not gotten that much better since I started it. It's really just been following the beginning of the Movie, making me travel back and forth across the city, fighting really easy enemies. But it did introduce one so far unnamed character (apparently a villain) that's probably from the comics or something.

I've helped in some apparently random situations, fighting bad guys, retreiving a stolen item, etc. to earn extra hero points. You have to earn a certain number before you can clear each game chapter, and you also use them to buy upgrades.

Baldur's Gate 2... I'm working on attacking a Thieves Guild hideout. Traps have now been introduced... it was a long time before you saw them in the original game. I found out where to buy some new equipment, which is nice. Game isn't that great so far, though.

Oops. Your Raistlin pictures aren't working because I lost the files on Boomspeed...

I finished the Ancient Tablet subquest in Darc's story of Arc the Lad 4. The only thing I haven't completed is the Spirit Dictionary subquest of Kharg's story.

Replaying The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past. I just completed the three Light World Dungeons and I'm ready to tackle Agahnim in Hyrule Castle. I won't be getting the Triple 000 score this time, because I don't have time to play it all the way through in one sitting right now.

Oh, I thought I had set the pictures set up for the Raistlin account, too. I'll be fixing that now.

In Spiderman, I think I'm starting chapter 6 now. Just met the doctor and learned about his experiment. There a good deal of repetition in this game... I know that's a common complaint of mine, but there are so many easy tasks this game has you doing....

I had a lot of fun in Spider-man 2 just swinging around. I love that game.

Anyway, the Colts won the Super Bowl.. again, but when I advanced to the next season, Peyton Manning somehow got on the 49ers roster! I had to trade away one of my backup QBs and my first and second round draft picks to get him back. And I picked up Kurt Warner from free agency.

In X-Men Legends, I'm off to get the good professor from the evil Shadow King, yay!

Yeah, I'll admit that wandering around the city in Spiderman 2 can be fun. Going to the tops of the buildings and looking around... it's very cool how it works without any load times. The voice acting is mostly great, too. Seems like they got just about everyone from the movie, or took their lines from the movie, one or the other.

It's just the missions that are lacking so far, to me.

It seems Pokemon Ruby is much more fun to play on the actual GBA than on the Game Boy Player.

I found an old friend's secret base. I had scrambled data with a friend of his. I knew about that person's base and go to it daily for experience, but for over a year I didn't know about this guy's base. He had some tough Pokemon, but nothing my Zapdos and Mewtwo couldn't handle. It also wielded some nice experience.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I haven't had extended periods in which to play games for a really long time; maybe half hour per night. I've been playing Mars Matrix during that time. Sometimes I feel like playing R-Type Delta. I haven't hooked up my PSX since I've been here.

Anyway, I had an awesome Mars Matrix game going the other night. I hit level 6 at the first boss, level 7 early in stage 3, and level 8 during the "cube fountain" part of stage 3. The only other time I hit level 8 I did it near the end of stage 5. By the beginning of stage 4, I had 1.8 million experience or so, and 3 lives left. I got the 1 UP after the miniboss, giving me 4 lives. Then I lost 2 on the warship and the last 2 on the boss :( I ended up with over 500 billion on that run, and I didn't even make it to stage 5. I think I've been playing the early stages too much. I haven't made it to stage 5 in a long time.

I finished another Spider-Man 2 chapter, but I can't remember which one. I had to travel to 5 random places around the city (the game just makes up completely random things for you to do sometimes). Then, I had to chase the character I mentioned earlier... name is Black Cat. She's fast, and it took me several attempts... mostly because of the camera angles being a problem. After that, just had to buy an upgrade and earn more hero points to finish out the chapter. The whole thing hardly took any time at all.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

The next mission was the most fun of the game so far. You (Spiderman) are challenged to prove that you're a superhero.

The first part has you rounding up criminals... you have to get more than the other guy and deposit them in the correct colored... container?

The next part was the challenging and fun one. He has this low powered laser thing that he tags you with... hits you three times and it's game over. So you have to do this elaborate climbing and platforming without any mistakes to get through. Reminded me almost of Mario Sunshine's linear stages.

Also did whatever other trivial stuff was required to finish out that chapter.

After taking several days to explore the world's largest final tower I've ever seen in a game, I made it to what I believe are the final bosses of Panzer Dragoon Saga. You have to fight a bunch of copies of your dragon's different forms in a row, and so far, I've only gotten to the third fight. I guess this is the one part of the game where I'm actually going to have to bother experimenting with my dragon's other forms.

Mysterio actually says to Spiderman:

"You have no chance to survive, make your time!"

Best thing ever.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I really, REALLY need to start working on the reviews for my huge backlog of beaten, but unreviewed games, like Insector-X, Cannon Spike, and Kartia.

I'll want to play through Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits again before I review it, too. I'll probably use that (pathetic excuse of a) New Game + feature so I won't have to do so much level-building at the beginning (you start with 10 fruits that raise you up one level per use.) Probably the smart thing to do would be to level up just a bit the normal way until it starts taking too long, then use the fruits.

Oh, and I need to reinstall my capture card. This time, I'm getting screenshots of the part where Bebedora infiltrates the human town. Words can't describe how hilarious that part is. It's even funnier if you've played the game and know what Bebedora is like, but I'm sure most people would find the dialogue funny anyway.

Spider-Man 2... significant progress...

I played a lot of Spider-Man 2 today when I had the opportunity. It is a rental, afterall... and while I'm not going to rush through these games, I don't want to take weeks to finish them either.

I fought Doctor Octopus at the bank, but the fight was over before it began... you just had to drain a little of his health, and chase him for a while afterwards.

The last thing I did was fight Shocker, after following Black Cat to the place where he was hiding. Following her was easy enough this time, since I've gotten better with the controls and the swing speed upgrades. I've actually enjoyed those parts of the game. Anyway, was the fight with Shocker the one you said was really good? It was somewhat fun, but the camera gave me a lot of trouble during it.

I reached the town of Capitan in Breath of Fire 2. This is the part where you have to go down the well and rescue the villagers by attacking the "Facehuggers" that are attached to their heads. I've rescued a few of them so far, but I keep backing out to save and heal. I guess my levels might not be quite high enough, but I'm sick of level-building in this game.

Quote: Wait, when you edit, don't you have to delete the message that was already there!?

What happened was I copied your post (in order to paste it into a quote), clicked "reply" (actually edit), then went to surf other pages while the page loaded. By the time I came back to that page, I noticed that it already had the text I had copied in it. I noticed that was weird, but just I figured that I had already pasted it there. I decided that since your message was right above mine the quote wasn't necessary, so I deleted the text.

There. Are you happy?

I've played Quake 3 Arena a little more. I'm continually adjusting the mouse sensitivity. At default, you have to drag the mouse, then pick it up and move it back about 3 or 4 times to turn around. I made it more sensitive as to strike a good balance between turning speed and still remaining in control. As I get more used to making precise movements, I knock the sensitivity up a bit.

As for progress, I'm up to tier 3 in single player. I generally play on default difficulty (2 of 5). I've beaten the training level on Hardcore (4 of 5), but Nightmare (5 of 5) was beyond me.

I tried deathmatching online with my advisor for the first time. We entered a railgun arena with lots of pits. My first two frags were my advisor ;) But I kept faling into the void, which causes you to lose a point. I ended up with like 4 frags and 14 falls, thus giving me -10 points.

Then we played one on one for a little while. He whooped me pretty bad, but he's been playing for a couple years. There's another professor here (Neal) who is supposedly really good. My advisor says Neal beats him like he does me.

Anyway, I'll just make a condensed version: I got to the Hinom Woods, but I haven't passed it yet because this has been the most difficult part of the game so far. I really have been enjoying this game a lot. I like the graphics and music and being able to fly short distances and cling to stuff really adds to the platforming stages.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

Restarted Arc the Lad: Twilight of the Spirits. Although I still think it's a poor excuse of a New Game +, Kharg does start with an item that doubles the received experience of the person who's wearing it. So I guess I won't have to worry too much about endless level-building anyway. As a matter of fact, I was thinking of trying to level everyone up to 99. I heard that the characters have a special quote for when they reach 99, and it would probably be easy to do by using the Arena Battles. You earn more experience for fighting in the Arenas then you do from the enemies in the final area of the game. And I actually like fighting those arena battles. You're only allowed to use two people, and the fights are sometimes really tough, so you have to use a lot of strategy. It was a lot of fun kicking ass with Kharg and Maru to unlock Diekbeck. I used Darc and Volk to unlock Choco (*barfs*).

I'm also going to take more time with the game on this replay. This time, I talked to everyone in town before leaving on the first mission and I actually caught some stuff I missed before. For example, that old woman in the house with the cat tells you about Lady Nafia's past. I missed that before. There's probably other stuff like that that I've missed.

And this time, when I get to the end, I'm going to choose to fight for the Deimos. I heard the ending is the same no matter what, but I'm sure if you choose to fight for the Deimos, you probably get to see some slightly different cinema scenes.

On a side note, I've noticed that some reviewers who played the previous Arc the Lad games complained about this one's story. But unless the stories of the previous Arc the Lad games are, in reality, a LOT better than what I've seen described, then apparently Lufia 2-style storytelling is the only thing that some people feel is acceptable in RPGs. Yes, Twilight of the Spirits has its cliches, but at least it's ABOUT something. I can't think of too many games that not only have a distinct theme, but also has characters that tie directly into that theme. And there are even fewer games that can claim to have a scene that is not only hysterically funny, but is also of great significance to the plot and theme.

Now I could be completely wrong and maybe the previous Arc the Lad games do have good themes and storytelling (I haven't yet played them), but I wouldn't know it from what I've seen people describe so far. I'm tired of RPG plots like, "Thieves stole my crown. Go find it for me.", and then of course, that has nothing to do with anything else.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

Finished Spider-Man 2!

Doctor Octopus was a challenging boss.. you fight him in stages, first on a train... there you just have to dodge his attacks, stop his arms with webs, and attack. Not too terribly hard. Getting knocked of the train is annoying, though.

Next stage, and the least fun, involved hitting 8 switches around a room to stop his experiment. The problem was doing this before the invincible Doctor Octopus destroyed you, and avoiding taking damage from the experiment itself.

Next stage was similar to the train part, in terms of how you have to fight. But you have more freedom to move, and the doctor seemed to have more health. Slow motion helped with the dodging.

Took me several tries, but I got it eventually. You can keep playing after the boss, doing random stuff to earn a higher completion percentage. But I just don't have time with this being a rental... I'd need 50,000 hero points to move on, and that'd take forever.

I have no clue how to get the scientists. I played some of the other stages. The J-Bomber was a lot of fun, but what the hell is the point of the dump truck?

Jet Force Gemini
.... what the hell is the big deal about this game? Aiming is a major pain in the ass in this game, sidestepping is unnecessarily difficult, and those two combined with twenty enemies attacking you at once make this really irritating. And while this isn't too major, Juno has the STUPIDEST running animation. Unless there's some mega quality boost soon, I think this is going to go in my "Never to be completed" pile.

Rampage World Tour
Once again, Smashing things = FUN! I played for almost an hour as Ralph. I think this would be a lot funner with two partners.

I continued my replay of Arc the Lad 4. I completed Kharg's first chapter and I just made it past the first Drakyr boss battle in Darc's quest.

Hee hee hee. I forgot how funny that part where Kharg knocks Maru out of the tree with the arrow was.

I tried playing King of Fighters Dream Match '99 on the Dreamcast earlier tonight. I haven't played a fighting game since that awful, awful Ballz 3D for SNES, and I thought I'd try a KOF game. I beat the Beginner difficulty on my first try with a team of Kyo, Terry, and Blue Mary.

One thing about this game is that the graphics don't look as "good" as they possibly could've been, especially since it's a Dreamcast game.

In Baldur's Gate 2, I finished the Thieves Guild hideout I was working on before I started Spiderman. The boss at the end was pretty tough... the whole game is a bit harder than the original so far, and I'm only on normal difficulty.

BTW, I think in Spiderman 2, it took around 7 hours to finish the main storyline. Maybe 8, but I don't think so.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I finally got back to KOTOR, and I beat it.

Spoilers...

I tried to avoid spoilers for the droid part... I purposefully skipped CB007's post earlier in this thread, but I did read his post about how that was a "control issue" in the other thread (related to gamefaqs). I don't know if that could be considered an inadvertent hint or not. Anyway, I did notice those terminals even the first time I fought the droids, and even tried to do something to them, but it didn't work. Maybe that's what CB007 meant about it being a control issue.. So, anyway, my solution was simply to not engage the droids. It definitely was possible to "talk" to the terminals while in normal (as opposed to combat) mode, so that's what I did.

Whoa, Malak was a tough final boss. And that's even taking into consideration that you can save during the final battle.

I finally had a save where only one Jedi was left. I quickly ran to it and "killed" it to replenish my force power. Even after I did that, I died a whole bunch of times. Eventually, I think a few things were important for victory:

First, the throw lightsaber skill. It's hard to use this skill much against Malak, because he tries to fight right against you. But when I was in that corner with the Jedi, it was a little awkward for Malak to reach me. Also, while you can't throw a lightsaber at close range, you can throw a lightsaber if your enemy was at long range and then closes in. In fact, you can stack as many "throw lightsaber" moves as possible (four) and they'll continue to work after the enemy closes in. Sometimes, the enemy won't even be able to counterattack until all of those moves have been performed. This is part can give a good head start (though how much you can attack before Malak closes the distance is unpredictable)

Another important thing was protecting against being stunned. If you're stunned, the battle is basically lost. I think "mental immunity" is important here, so I sacrificed some other skill (Fortitude +3, I think) for that.

Finally, I was completely out of Life Support packs by that point. And Heal magic only healed about 30 hp, and Malak was damaging me for 40. So, I really had to keep using status boosting items. Mainly the verpine shield (which can absorb 70 damage, the best shield I had on me) and the advanced battle stimulant (which I needed because otherwise, my hit rate against Malak was pathetically low)

So, to sum up, I used a lot of planning, and it paid off. I definitely liked this game.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

The proper way to get past the droid sequence if you don't have enough spikes is to attack the droids to make spikes appear in the bins. But the only way to target the bins and computers after fighting the droids is to cancel combat mode using the B button. I think it's the only time during the course of the game that it's necessary, and the game doesn't make it obvious that you need to do it. That's why I called it a control issue rather than a gameplay problem.

Congrats on beating the game, and I'm glad you didn't hate it like Lunar :)

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

Before I started playing tonight, I had two plans for things to consider with the droids. The first was attacking them in some order (they're labled A-F, so maybe destroying them in alphabetical order could have done something). The other was to see if there was something else in the room I could destroy or otherwise interact with. Well, this time, before I even reached Malak, I discovered I could "talk" to the terminals (though you can't do anything with them until Malak activates them), so that gave me the indication of what I needed to do.

I had plenty of computer spikes; over 100. I had bought 50 to try to free the slaves on Korriban.

You're right about that feature not being mentioned, though.

Going back to the Malak fight for a minute, that was actually the only fight in the game where I used status affecting items while in battle. Usually, I'd only use them right before (When you can activate about 5 at once). Normally, they're not useful enough to use in battle. For instance, equiping an energy shield that can absorb 20 hp of damage doesn't make much sense when you could use an advanced med pack to heal 40 hp.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

Speaking of Lunar, while that game and KOTOR are completely different in most ways, there is one respect they're alike: They both have a lot of dialogue.

Slogging through all that dialogue in Lunar really annoyed me. I think there are a few reasons it's more tolerable in KOTOR.

First, in Lunar, the dialogue is presented in little dialogue boxes, which are, as I recall, about 2 lines high. This makes it absolutely impossible to read the text at a comfortable (fast) speed. Can you imagine trying to read an entire novel if you were only allowed to look at two lines at a time? I think it would be infuriating.

So, then, I might try to advance through the text faster, but then it's possible to accidentally skip through a whole box of dialogue. Meaning, if it was important, you'd have to go through the whole conversation again.

I thought it was much easier to read KOTOR's text at my own pace. At first it was a little weird to have voice acting while I was reading the same lines, but twice as fast, but I got used to it pretty quickly (after maybe an hour of play, which was only about 2% of the game). Sometimes, I'd actually listen to the voices, in which case reading pace was irrelevant. More often, though, I would push the button to advance the dialogue quicker. And that worked quite well. While you can't skip cut scenes completely, you can skip through them very rapidly. (MUCH more rapidly than you could if you tried, say, skipping through Metal Gear Solid's Codec scenes) And if I ever did miss something important (which was rare, but happened a few times nevertheless), I could go to the message recall screen, and reread it there without having to go through an entire conversation.

Also, while Lunar was supposed to be a comedy, and KOTOR was not, I nevertheless laughed out loud a lot more with KOTOR.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

Speaking of KOTOR's humor, there was something even at the end that I thought was pretty funny [spoiler?].

You have to fight Malak in single combat. After you defeat him, you rejoin the rest of your party, and they ask what happened. You're given three dialogue choices, one of which I forgot, one was "I killed Malak. It's over." And the one I chose was "I couldn't turn Malak back to the Light side. I had to kill him." And then Bastila says, "You know, I don't think any of us really expected you to turn him back to the light side."

Anyway, I went back to an older save to play the final dark side path. My save was right before I went into the Elder's base. I did that part differently: This time I killed the elders. That seemed easier to me than fighting the One and his troops.

The temple seemed easier this time, too. I got a few game overs on my first try, but none this time. Part of it may be that I have better strategies now.

My solution for the tile puzzle was to step on the corners, and from the final corner to walk diagonally to the middle. But there's a data pad in that area that gives a different clue, based on walking in an H.

After I joined Bastila, I had to kill Jolie and Juhani. Too bad, I guess, by they were actually the ones that attacked me.

When I got back to the gang, Carth escaped from me. I guess that was nice, because I kind of liked him and thought it'd be a shame to have to kill him (I have a feeling, though, that I may meet him again). But I had no choice about killing Mission. I had Zalabar kill her (by force persuading him), which seems cruel, but it allowed Zalabar to live, so it seems less cruel to me than killing them both (I played that part twice).

I guess I'm not really cut out to be a Sith lord.

Anyway, I'm currently right at level 2 of the Star Forge. That is, I believe, when the long, continuous battles start. This file is two hours behind my file that's at the end of the game, during the final boss fight.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I just made it to Malak again.

Most of the star forge was just as difficult as it was the first time. One part, however, was substantially easier: Rather than fighting Bastlia, I had to fight three Sith vying to be Malak's apprentice. I beat them on my first try. Before the battle, I just filled my character's (who, by the way, I named Boogie Bah) stack with "Throw lightsaber", and then switched to Bastila and did the same thing for her. They went down really easily.

There's an explaination for why Bastila can't continue with you to the final fight, but Canderous also left, with no explaination.

I was just playing BG:DA2 and it's been a little more fun. I'm only about 2.5 hours in, though. I'm at a giant manor with lots of zombies and strange creatures... whole place is pretty creepy looking. Have to find sheet music in order to play the piano by the entrance... guess it opens up the door to the next area. I've found almost all of it now.

The challenge was pretty high, but as I level up, it gets more manageable. You can't overlevel in this game either, since enemies don't ever respawn.

Oh, and there was some interesting KOTOR trivia I wanted to mention: We noticed in the end credits that the guy that did this game's new music is the same guy that did the music to Secret of Evermore (Jeremy Soule).

It's rather appropriate, if you think about it.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I beat Malak again and got the Dark side ending to KOTOR. I tried a completely different approach, one which made beating him much easier... so much easier I won't discuss it with hiding it as a spoiler.

It seemed as though using the Throw Lightsaber ability did the most damage to Malak (and it always hit), but the problem was that I'd deplete all my force points in taking away just two-thirds of his life. Also, I just now discovered (believe it or not) that you can use healing items from the status screen. Furthermore, so long as you're not in a battle, you can use as many as you want, and time won't pass in the meanwhile. (Previously, I had been using healing items from the little blue bar at the bottom of the screen)

So, my plan was to see if I could run away from the battle, and get far enough away to leave battle mode (I must admit that part of this idea occured to me while going back to CB007's posts about leaving battle mode by pressing the B button). Then, I could use as many healing items as I wanted (I had plenty of normal Medipacks, but those are absolutely worthless in battle at this point in the game, as I wouldn't be able to heal fast enough to repair the damage Malak did), and could also have my Force power recharge.

For the most part, I had never tried anything like this in the game before. I had tried running through the Star Forge to try to get through the continuous battles, but it didn't really help. So, there were reasons to think this strategy wouldn't work.

There are a few reasons why it worked here. First, there's the layout of the room. It's huge, and has a lower and upper floor. Those are connected by ramps in three different places. So, it's possible to run in a huge loop from the top and bottom floor, and back, and stay away from Malak for as long as possible.

Another reason this strategy works is that Malak, oddly, does not use the Drain Life ability (most generic Dark Jedi enemies have this skill). Aside from healing himself with the Jedi's bodies, he has no way of recovering. Hence, chipping away at him will wear him down.

I am looking forward to playing this game on Hard sometime (though I suspect this strategy might work against Malak even then, unless his running speed is increased so I can't escape battle mode)

I hope you have a more enjoyable time with that game than I did. I found it fun for the first few hours, but after that I thought it just got repetitive, and using the drow monk WAY too easy. Oh, and iirc things do respawn in some areas, it's kind of needed when you start to make your own magical items ... things cost a mint and a half.

Over this side tonight I played Kingdom Hearts for a little while. So far I am impressed with the fighting style, it's nice to have a change in a square/enix game every once and a while. Also, for some reason I'm finding myself wanting to play more just because it has Disney characters in it and I want to know how that all ties in.

Also played Burnout 3 for a little while. A friend recommended this game to me and so far I'm disappointed. The crash events are way too easy, granted I'm hoping that's only because it's the begining of the game, and the races I just don't find as fun as those in NFSU.

I put away my Genesis, and hooked up my PSX. That blue clear PSX controller I got at Saver's works fine. I'm not bothering with the gray one. Some of the games I played...

Alundra: I guess I just happened to wander into the right place during my last play, because I went into Lars's dungeon without even knowing I was supposed to go there. I was about halfway through when I saved and put it down. I solved some puzzles, beat the mummy thing, got the goodies, saved, and quit.

One Piece Mansion: This game is totally not what I was expecting it to be! I thought it was going to be an RPG - it's a puzzler, and a splendid one at that. You have to match up these blocks with varying kind of people in them so that everybody's happy. Some people will cause stress, some cause joy, some cause a mix (for example, this one chick in a bathtub annoys the person below her, but pleases the people next to her). You can switch people around for better arrangements, because if somebody gets too stressed their room explodes. Sometimes evil people move in, and you have to build stress on them to throw them out.

I also totally forgot about the bottle underneath the bridge, and I'm still missing that, too. I want to get all those things before beating the game. Since I wasn't going for a Triple 000 score, I may as well go for all the items, even if I don't need them to win.

Invest in an arcade stick.

Seriously, though, back to your Rugal comment, yes, all SNK fighting game bosses suffer from what is known as "SNK Boss Syndrome" which pretty much follows the simple formula of "boss = cheap". Nuff said. However, KOF '98 Rugal is nothing compared to a lot of the other KOF bosses.

And yes, I said KOF '98 because KOF '99 Dream Match is really KOF '98 with a different name for some reason. But you all probably knew that already.

In BG:DA2, I've reached the Red Fang (I think I got that right) Base.

Been playing a little bit at a time, getting through that laboratory where the monsters were created, then through an outdoor area, through a cave, and some other stuff. Not much of interest aside from a monster that only comes after you if you wear metalic equipment... it destroys them instantly. It was all by itself, so taking off the armor wasn't a problem. It doesn't attack you. But I'm thinking this will come into play more later in the game, and that it'll be mixed in with regular enemies.

Combat has become just a matter of hold block button, wait, attack. Almost impossible to lose to the things I'm fighting now.

I'm about 4 hours into the game... need to maybe hurry a little bit, since I'm not even through Act 1 yet. Probably wasn't the best choice in the world for a game to rent, but I wanted to see what it was like. I certainly don't like it enough to buy it, that's for sure.

You know, I think I just remembered where I'm missing a heart container piece. I'll have to check it in a few hours when I go home...

It's been a little tough to find the time, but I've also worked on my replay of Fable a little bit with my evil character. He's pretty much invincible at this point, but I had a great time playing.

I'm looking forward to trying an all magic game someday, with no melee or archery.

Yup! That heart container piece was exactly where I thought it was. It occurred to me that I had no memory of getting the heart container piece from the smaller hut in the Misery Mire swamp and that's where it still was.

I cleared out Ganon's Tower and beat Ganon at the Pyramid. I got all the items, bottles, heart container pieces, Lv. 2 Boomerag, Lv. 4 sword, and 1/2 Magic. The only thing I didn't do was max out my bomb and arrow-carrying capacities.

My score was 008, but I didn't die at all. That's just from Saving & Quitting. I'm so glad they fixed that in Link's Awakening.

Quote: I'm so glad they fixed that in Link's Awakening.

They also fixed it in the GBA Link to the Past.

This new F-Zero game ain't so bad. In fact, it's a helluva lot better than the cartoon. It uses the same control schemes as Maximum Velocity. Actually, it seems they reused half the code from Maximum Velocity. But anyway, in this game you can rapidly press the A button to make super-sharp turns. This thing that annoyed me about most of the other F-Zero games was the inability to turn, which usually resulted in my bouncing around the track a bunch of times before finally regaining control, and being in 25th place.

The first character I unlocked using Rick was Leon, the wolf (who I somehow think is based on Wolf O'Donnel form Star Fox 64. He's a war-torn wolf, but has the name of Wolf's lizard wingman Leon). I actually played with Rick again, then I tried out Leon. I love this guy! He turns so well I almost don't need the rapid-A thing!

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I just got past Darc's first chapter in Arc the Lad 4. I'm a bit underleveled and I had a hard time beating Densimo and Geedo. I lost three times, whereas before, I didn't lose at all. I could have just used my Fruits to level up, but I was determined to beat them with strategy. However, I remembered that I had gotten a leaf in the last battle that permanently increases defense, so I used that on Darc before my fourth try, and that little extra bit of defense power did the trick.

So, now I'm at the beginning of Kharg's second chapter. And, I don't know why I didn't notice this one before, but Maru just gave out one of the best lines of dialogue ever:

Maru (to Paulette): Don't think you're special just because you're wearing red shoulder pads!

Thank you, Maru. Next time someone tries to boss me around, I'm gonna tell them something like, "Don't think you're special just because you're wearing a flannel shirt!"

I've made it to Act 2 of BG2:DA, and I think I may have found a glitch regarding blocking. Hard to explain, but it seems that if you have a shield equipped as secondary (you can switch between different weapon/shield combos), it lets you block better even when you're just using a large weapon to block, and the shield isn't actually getting used. Yeah, I know that made absolutely no sense to anyone but me.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

"Maru (to Paulette): Don't think you're special just because you're wearing red shoulder pads!"

The one word that makes that line so funny is "red". If it just said, "Don't think you're special because you're wearing shoulder pads", it would (maybe) make more sense. But the inclusion of the word "red" makes it seem, for some reason, that any other color shoulder pads wouldn't matter. It's just red ones that are so...intimidating.

Anyway, Crawl and I are up to the next-to-last episode of Beast Wars Season 3. I dunno what to think. It's still pretty good, but nowhere near on par with Season 2. And the ending seems to have come up quite abruptly, whereas Seaons 1 and 2 slowly built up to their conclusions. I can tell the writers were being rushed and forced to introduce new characters because of toys (Tigerhawk for example). And it seems there are a lot of "Deus Ex Machina" moments, like a strange alien device inexplicably healing Blackarachnia, and another scene where she suddenly has Jedi levitation powers.

Going back to Tigerhawk...I don't like this. I do remember hearing some complaints about this character, and I think I see why. He's supposedly a combination of Tigatron and Airazor, but he seems to have only traits of Tigatron...and very little of even that personality seems to have remained intact. Maybe, with more time, this character could've been explored more (or maybe they just couldn't get Pauline Newstone back to voice Airazor again), but three episodes away from the final (and with too many other plot developments going on) just isn't enough time to devote to him/her/it.

BUT at least this season wasn't the total disaster that Seasons 3 & 4 of Transformers Gen. 1 was, and it's still 900 times better than Beast Machines.

Oh, and I'm glad they allowed Blackarachnia to remain a spider, even in upgraded form. I was worried that with all this talk of making her a "true Maximal" that they'd give her some other animal form, as a spider is (sorta of) seen as an "evil" animal. (Yes, I know she was still a spider in Beast Machines, but I wouldn't go by that because that show wasn't exactly 100% consistent with Beast Wars anyway.)

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I've been score attacking Mars Matrix arcade mode. My goal is to reach 30 billion in each stage. Stage 1 will probably be the toughest. I've gotten it up to 25.8 billion thus far, with the combo for that run being about 950 (and hitting level 6 before the boss). Stage 2 might pose a problem, too. I obviously need to work on a new strategy for that stage, because I pulled off a "perfect" run with my current strategy that only netted about 27 billion.

All other stages are already over 30 billion. Stage 3, due to some freakish occurrance where I went into the "cube fountain" part with an already large combo, is at over 60 billion.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I completed the three sidequests of Kharg's second chapter. That includes getting the bracelet back from the thieves, clearing the snail monsters out of Plumb Canyon, and finding the first Spirit Dictionary.

I have to wonder if Arc the Lad 4 is yet another game that's "unfinished". When I first got to this part of the game where you have to do all these sidequests, I thought that more of the game was going to be like that, but it wasn't. It just seems weird to start off with that kind of idea, then abandon it right away. There are also some other things that hint that more was maybe planned for the game...like the fact that the Wind Stone issue was never resolved, and the spirits really don't have that much to do with the game when it seemed like they were going to have more of a role. I also have to wonder what that "awaken your true power" bit was all about. I don't think Kharg or Darc ever really awakened some "true power" within them. Maybe it was just meaningless RPG mumbo jumbo, but it could've also been a hint at perhaps some "Breath of Fire"-ish special power that was supposed to be in the game but didn't make it in.

Well if any of us ever find a game with an attack where you pick up two of your party members, each in one arm, and use them as twin machine guns to fire curse words, we'll know for sure we're being ripped off.

Anyway, in Breath of Fire 2, Rand's mother wanted us to clear out the rocks and tree stumps in her backyard. I didn't expect that you'd literally "fight" them in battles. This game can be really goofy sometimes.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

Ah hah hah hah! I hit a weird snag from being over-leveled. There's a battle where you have to destroy a bridge before killing too many of the enemies, otherwise the battle restarts all over again. Because my characters are so over-leveled due to the item that doubles experience points, they kept killing the enemies too quickly, before I could take out the bridge, and the battle kept restarting. Even choosing not to fight didn't help because they'd counterattack. I had to fight that battle four times. On the third try, I almost had the bridge, but dumbass Maru countered an attack from halfway across the screen and then it started all over again!

I also had a weird thing happen to me that really was beyond my control. There's a battle where you have to protect Lillia from the Drakyr enemies, and I didn't lose that fight the first time I played through the game, but I lost it twice here. The problem wasn't with my characters. The problem was that Lillia kept running ahead of us too fast and then the two last Drakyr would gang up on her. On my second attempt, I had Maru stay alongside her since he can both fight from a distance AND heal, but then she ran way ahead of him, out of his healing range and I lost again. On my third try, I sent Maru straight to the back of the Drakyr gang, and as I hoped, they ganged up on him and left Lillia alone. I don't think I've heard the phrase "Stupid dolt!" so many times in a row before.

I just find it a little strange that I'm getting more Game Overs and failures with a higher-leveled party then I did at this point my first time through the game. There was also that incident in Darc's quest where I lost three times to the Geedo/Densimo boss fight.

So, now I'm ready to repair the Big Owl airship and we've finally gotten Ganz into the party.

I also found a scene of dialogue between Paulette and Kharg that I missed the first time through. Umm...what is it with everybody in this game having a hard time telling each other their true feelings? Delma and Darc. Kharg and Paulette. See that's why Maru and Bebedora are the best characters in this game. They're honest and straightforward. Maru wants to rule the world. Bebedora wants to blow it up.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I forgot to mention, I beat the first loop of Astro Warrior last night. And as Facilitypro predicted, I did it in one life. You really have to. It's nearly impossible to do anything without any powerups in the middle of the game. I haven't beaten the second loop yet. It's a bit harder. There are some enemies that shoot bullets that didn't before and some stuff moves faster (like the asteroids).

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I've been playing my Gold Ocarina of Time lately. Yeah, I agree with Crawl, the chanting was kind of unimpressive. But then again, aside from that, there was no "music" in the Fire Temple.

I completed the Water Temple. Y'know, I've done this temple several times, and each time I go in, wondering "I wonder why I hate this temple so much." Then after an hour of mindless wandering, it finally comes back to me.

I got the Gerudo pass, and then I went back to Young Link, drained the well, and went inside, then saved and quit.

Could somebody tell me where the Fire Arrows and Farore's Wind are (I know the location of the Ice and Light arrows, as well as Nayru's Love. I've just completely forgotten where the two items I listed at first are)? I'd appreciate it if you just told me the general area, and not a step-by-step walkthrough to get them.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

I've finished the following Jedi Academy levels (You get access to a group of missions and can then do them in any order.). They're fairly short levels, but more of them and in more variety than in Jedi Outcast. I like that idea.

Yavin Jungle (very basic stuff, traveling with someone from your crashed ship to a nearby safe locaiton. But you have to fight a Sith at the end, and I lost once when I wasn't yet used to the controls)

Training Area (Like it sounds, you learn how to use your force powers and stuff at the Jedi Academy)

Mercenary Activity - Tatooine (Pretty much nonstop fighting, trying to figure out who hired the mercenaries, but it was fun.)

Droid Recovery - Tatooine (A lot of fighting... the level was pretty linear, but not as much as the one before it. There were a couple of simple puzzles, too)

Emergency Assistance - Bakura (This was the longest mission so far. A large facility to travel through with many different areas... you need key cards to get to different sections, and it's not entirely linear.)

It's a much better game than the original. The levels aren't pointless mazes anymore, and you get your Jedi abilities right from the start.

Going back to this for a minute...If I ever do make an RPG, Crawl will have a move where he shaves his beard off, tosses it into the air, and it sprinkles down on everyone in the party and heals them. Then, there's an animation of him immediately sprouting a new beard.

Re: Game Progress Topic 11 (Now with extra marshmallows!)

It's been so long since I've played Ocarina of Time, I couldn't remember where to get those items, either. Do you have to shoot an arrow into the sun to get the Fire Arrows, or am I thinking of another game? I think one of those Goddess powers is hidden in the desert near the Spirit Temple, but I don't remember which one.

Okay, I continued Darc's second chapter in Arc the Lad 4 and I beat Camellia. She was much easier this time due to the extra leveling up I did and I was actually able to get all the treasure chests from the battle this time. The last time I had to forgo two of the chests because Camellia was kicking our asses too badly and Darc died in the fight and I had no way to revive him.

So, after that, Camellia joined the party. There are a disturbing amount of times you fight people in this game and then they join you afterwards...and sometimes you fight them even after they've joined you. When I first played through this game, the part where you had to fight Bebedora the second time made me feel more uneasy than anything else I can think of in any game in recent memory. I was so ready to kick someone's ass after making me feel that way.

After Camellia, I got the Pyron and flew off to Adenade. But before that, I had beaten the Mark of Demons Tournament in Orcoth with Darc, Delma, and Volk. Only one at a time can fight in that tournament. I took each character right through it, but the other two tourneys are too difficult at our current levels. I can't imagine ever being able to do that with Camellia, she's just too weak.

So then I went to Rueloon for better equipment, and then to the Coleopt Shrine. Fought and beat Bebedora's "puppets" and then she joined up (YES!) Beat Queen Selkis and got the Miracle Stone. End of Darc's second chapter.

Darc's party fills up faster than Kharg's. Not counting the hidden characters, Darc's is complete now, but I've got a ways to go before I get Tatjana in Kharg's quest.

Hmmm...I rushed through this game too quickly the first time through. I missed quite a few dialogue scenes. I didn't realize Zugalo was killed in the attack on Orcoth before. I'm kind of wishing I didn't know. Yeah, he was a big stupid loser, but he's endearing and funny, and he did fight hard to protect Lilia.

Nayru's Love is the one by the Spirit Temple.

I'm certain Farore's Wind is some time before Jabu-Jabu, because I remember one time using it somewhere inside him. Why, no clue, but I know it was in Jabu-Jabu.

I didn't think you could shoot the arrow as Young Link...

Anyway, I restarted Albert Odyssey because I want MP3's of those missing songs. I got the Valerian Castle theme and Pike's Dream and I know of a way to get the Bar theme without the audience sound effect in it. I'll do that one after I get the boss theme, which I should be able to get once I confront Valerian.

Um...what the hell is going on here? Usually this game is easy as cake, but I've gotten three Game Overs. I've had to stop to level up. I can't recall ever doing that before...Maybe I did and just forgot. It's the only explanation.

No, I was talking about shooting the rising sun. I did it with Young Link using the slingshot.

So, you can shoot the sun as Young Link, it just won't do anything.

Then I forgot to do it as Adult Link.
