what games are you playing now?

I've recently beaten SNES Clock Tower. I'm currently playing Ys Book 1 & 2, Sonic CD and Fausette Amour (a Jap TG16-CD platformer).

Still playing Conker's Bad Fur Day. I've made it to the "Saving Private Ryan" chapter.

Re: what games are you playing now?

Animal Crossing has been eating up most of my time. I played a little Eternal Darkness earlier today (I refuse to play that game when it's dark out. Yes, I'm yellow-bellied) as well as some Skies of Arcadia Legends. I played some Fire Emblem and Viewtiful Joe yesterday.

I'm very scatterbrained when it comes to games.

I've also restarted Hell. I'm going to play through the game as Rachel this time. Not that it really makes any real difference who you play as, but I want to play through it one more time before I review it, and I might as well use Rachel.

Re: what games are you playing now?

I've been playing Killer Instinct Gold a lot lately. I don't know why - this game isn't really all that good. The final boss Gargos is so damn cheap.

I've also been playing Xenogears, but it's not holding my attention so well anymore.

"I've been playing Killer Instinct Gold a lot lately. "

Didn't you just say in the other topic that you skipped all of Rare's N64 games except Goldeneye? O_O

I finished Super Ninja Boy a few days ago, and now I'm working on Lagoon. This game is hard as nails. Damn bosses can kill you in 1-2 hits if your level isn't high enough. >_<

I'm playing Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced and Mega Man Zero 2 (well, not really, but I intend to beat it soon). And I'm going to replay FFIX. It's the only FF game that I don't remember all that well, even though I didn't beat it too long ago.

One thing about Conker's Bad Fur Day is that I admire some of its spirit. It has some really bizarro puzzles that just make you wonder how on earth anybody could come up with such an idea. And the beginning of the Saving Private Ryan spoof makes me wonder what kind of effect that could have in a more serious game.

I rented Mario Party 4 today, and I'm forever grateful I only rented it. The mini-games are terrible, the items suck, the Mario Party charm is almost non-existant, Waluigi's in the game, and the computer is cheap. I swear; Peach got a Mega Mushroom each turn.

Re: asfasf

All the talk about Conker's Bad Fur Day has put me in the mood to replay it. As much as I like this game, some parts don't have as much replay value as others, like the ones where the only challenge is solving the puzzle. But, anyway, I just beat the Terminator boss, but I'm having a hard time getting past the part right after that, where you have to climb up out of the rising water and knock down those livewires with the throwing knives.

I've been playing Super Mario Kart and Goldeneye a lot with my brother, but I'm trying to decide if I want to start an RPG. I might want to replay Earthbound or Paladin's Quest, or start a new one I haven't played before. Maybe The 7th Saga since I hear so little about it.

Re: asfasf

I've done everything I can possibly can in the Washington, D.C. portion of Hell right now, and the damn game won't advance to the next phase! I either need Katarina Goertz to make the next few Hellpits available to me or have Dante tell me that I can talk to Deepthroat again, but neither event wants to happen. And I've advanced the game's clock about three days. This, to me, is the single worst flaw of this game. Worse even than the overabundance of talking and cutscenes.

Re: asfasf

Eternal Darkness is appearing oddly tamer lately. Maybe it's because when I was first playing this, my own nerves were on the fritz (very long story. I'll just say it's the reason I probably hate gum more than the average gum hater), and now that they're more normal the game's not freaking me out so much. Now the only problem I have with playing it is that I'm on Ellia's chapter, and if my mom were to walk into the room and see how she was dressed...

Re: asfasf

I'm still playing Conker's Bad Fur Day, and I think I'm fairly close to the end of the "It's War!" chapter. At this point, I'm not sure what to think of this game. It feels like a 2 1/2 star game to me, but I don't know if that's underrating it. On the one hand, this game feels like it was made with "Metal Gear Solid" mentality - each area is like a separate mini-game, with play style and controls different from the areas before it. But on the other hand, unlike MGS (or at least judging from what I've heard about it), they did make these tasks somewhat challenging. I don't think I've been able to complete too many of them on my first try, and some have taken dozens of tries. Unfortunately, I feel that some of the challenge comes from bad camera angles and awkward controls.

Re: asfasf

I'm past "It's War!" and I'm at the Matrix spoof. I have to admit that this part of the game is weird enough (and challenging enough) that I like it more than many of the others I've faced so far. It also seems like the parody is more on-target than some of the others. I mean, I don't understand why there's a parody of The Exorcist in the middle of the War chapter. And that parody of the Untouchables is just dangling out in the middle of nowhere. Nothing leads up to it. But this one's really on-the-ball. And I wouldn't be surprised if this is a better "Matrix" game than "Enter the Matrix".

I don't want to talk too much about what you have to do in this game because I don't want to reveal spoilers, since a lot of the "challenge" of the game comes from just figuring out what to do, and I don't want to ruin the novelty of seeing what happens when you hit upon the right solution.

Re: asfasf

I'm past the Matrix Spoof at and a part where you're fighting an enemy that's based on the Alien. You even fight it inside a giant yellow robot suit. This part's actually rather cool. It's kind of like Punch-Out!! meets the Bowser battles in Super Mario 64. You have to block or jump depending on what type of attack the Alien is going to use, and he telegraphs that move by either lowering his head, or rearing back and raising his hands off the ground. It's much more difficult to do than you might think, because you only have a brief moment to react, and it's difficult for me to sync my brain with what my fingers do. I usually jump when I'm supposed to block. Once you land some punches on him, he falls down, then you grab him by the tail and spin him around, just like Bowser in Super Mario 64. You have to try to throw him out an airlock, but it appears, like everything else in this game, that you have to do it three times because on the first two, the Alien grabs onto the wall and jumps back into the spaceship. The Alien's pattern gets tougher each time.

Re: asfasf

Alundra. I'm at the desert, and I see what I have to do to get through it, but it's difficult to make the jumps with the wind. I really like the game's story. The translation job is really good (after the traumatizing I suffered from Star Ocean 2's translation, this is a warm welcome). And for once, Working Design's didn't pepper it with meaningless jokes and pop references.

I LOVE FO!

I played through R-Type III again this morning.

Then, early this evening, I played a couple of hours of Conker's Bad Fur day. (I've played for almost 7 hours total so far). It was just sitting out, so I thought, what the hey. Anyway, tonight I

-Climbed the bat tower (however, I skipped the money at the top)
-Got all the cogs for the gear and trapped the shark
-Got the Catfish's money from their vault
-Got the money from the bee hive (as well as lots of other money)
-Enter the barn and beat Frankie the pitchfork
-Got all the bees for the sunflower
-Beat the terminator boss.
-Got the dinosaur baby...
-...and smashed the dinosaur baby.
-Maybe some other stuff

I don't know. This game doesn't seem very compelling. It just feels like a game you waste some time with, and you progress, but it doesn't really challenge you very much.

And some parts are very irritating. You have to get some bees, then make them follow you to a sunflower. That's not too big a deal; they follow you fairly quickly. However, there's another part where you need to get a dinosaur to follow you, and it moves so freakin' slow!. I had to keep stopping, waiting for it to catch up, and then go back for it since I had moved out of the range of where it'd follow you (which isn't much). Honestly, I might have found that part more irritating than sailing in Wind Waker.

The only part of the game that seemed close to challenging so far was when you had to swim past some big blades that can cut you in half. Even there, the biggest issue seemed to be the problem with knowing how close you were to the blades in 3d space.

I LOVE FO!

Since my last post, I've played about three more hours and

-Delivered the bomb (which wasn't that difficult)
-Did the surfboard segment
-Beat the caveman by using the dinosaur
-Beat the wasps using the hive gun, getting the hive back for the second time
-Got the barrel, making it to the Transylvania part of the game
-Killed enough zombies to enter the castle
-Fed Dracula enough mice to kill him

I think FO was having some trouble with the part where you have to kill the zombies. I can see why: You have to hit them with a head shot, but you can't fire rapidly and the zombies move quickly, making it difficult to get a good shot. Plus, if the zombies catch you, you're pretty much done for. My trick for this part was to just run past the zombies. At first, they chase you but they eventually give up. Then, when I was far enough away, I picked them off at my leisure.

I'd say the surfboard part was the best part of the game so far, by far. The funny thing is, I believe that pressing forward on the analog stick to increase speed was discussed at this board at least a couple of times previously, but I still forgot about that when I made it to that area. I eventually noticed that on my own.

That area really does seem pretty fast. It's what I imagined F-Zero X's speed would have been like before I played that game (and discovered it was slower). The course also has a lot of good, tricky turns. There is one part where a dinosaur crosses the track. It seems nearly impossible to deal with it when its legs block the track; it seems like death is inevitable at that moment. But maybe not. Either way, I'm willing to give the fairness of that spot the benefit of the doubt for the sake of its challenge and excitement.

Even though that's the best part of the game so far, I still think, if I was forced to rate the game at this time, that I'd only give it 2 stars. While it (from a gameplay/level design perspective) may not be as formless as Donkey Kong 64, they sort of make me feel the same way when I play them.

Re: I LOVE FO!

I just got done with some Animal Crossing, and yesterday I got my first death related sanity effect in Eternal Darkness. I had Karim below half sanity, and I don't have the Xel'lotath alignment rune (only the worthless Ulyaoth one). I went to use one of Karim's talismen after a fight with a Horror, and as the symbols were appearing on the floor his torso blew up.
